AWARDS

One of the ways Soroptimist International of Riverside helps to improve the lives of women and girls in our local communities is through our AWARDS program

Gold Key Award
Soroptimist International of Riverside (SIR) is one of 1700 clubs represented in 119 countries and territories throughout the world.  One of the goals of Soroptimist International is to promote "The Dignity of Service".  Our way of achieving this goal was to establish the SIR Gold Key Award.

The Gold Key Award gives recognition for community volunteer accomplishments and community service to the City of Riverside.

For more information contact:  Bernie Titus, Salute to Service Comittee at (951) 680-1998, ext. 1101.

Making a Difference for Women Awards
The SIR Making a Difference for Women Award honors a woman who, through her professional or personal efforts, makes an extraordinary difference in the lives of women or girls.  The honoree will be a woman whose work has had a significant impact and has inspired and encouraged other women.

The winner of the award receives a $1,500 donation to a charitable organization of her choice.   Winners of the club-level award will compete for additional recognition at other levels of the Soroptimist International organization.

Women's Opportunity Awards
WOA is Soroptimist's major service project, aids women seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education.  The program helps women who, as the primary wage earners for their families, must enter or return to the work force.

The women may use the awards to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education - including books, child care and car fare.  Many WOA winners are domestic abuse survivors who use the funds to help rebuild their lives through improved employment opportunities.

Each year more that $800,000 is awarded through the WOA program.  Since the program began in 1972, it is estimated that $15 million has been disbursed and more than 20,000 women have been assisted.

Violet Richardson Award
VRA is a recognition program for young women ages 14-17 engaged in volunteer action within their communitites or school.  The award is given to young women whose volunteer activities make the community and world a better place.  The award is in honor of the president of the first Soroptimist club, Violet Richardson, a women of action, whose indomitable spirit and sense of personal responsibility were demonstrated by her lifelong commitment to volunteering in her community.
